Abu Hurayrah Al-Dawsi Al-Zahrani often spelled Abu Hurairah (R.A.), was one of the companions (Sahabah) of Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) and the most prolific narrator of Hadith. He narrated more than hadiths (about hadiths).
Abu Hurayrah (R.A.) was a simple man from Yemen but through his enormous efforts rose to one of the highest positions in Islamic history. He was known by the kunyah Abu Hurayrah "Father of a Kitten". Abu Hurayrah (R.A.) spent four years (some say two years) in the company of the Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) and went on expeditions and journeys with him.
Abu Hurayrah’s (R.A.) father died when he was young. According to some sources, his name at birth was Abdu-Shams.
Abu Hurayrah became a Muslim at the hands of At-Tufayl ibn Amr (R.A.), the chieftain of the Banu Daws tribe to which he belonged. The Banu Daws lived in the region of Tihamah which stretches along the coast of the Red Sea in southern Arabia. Father of the Kitten . Abu Hurayrah al-Dawsi al-Yamani was one of the best known Companions of the Prophet Muhammad and a narrator of hadiths. It is said that he was given the name Abu Hurayrah (Father of the Kitten) because he had a kitten and used to play with it while herding people’s goats for a living.

Abū Hurayra's conversion to Islam occurred in the 7th year after the Hijra ( CE), during the time of the Prophet's campaigns in and around Medina. He became a close companion of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and was known for his profound love and devotion to him. His relationship with the Prophet (ﷺ) was characterized by his eagerness to learn and preserve the sayings and actions of the Messenger of Allah. He spent a significant amount of time in the Prophet's company, which enabled him to narrate a vast number of hadith.

Abū Hurayra was born in the city of Yemen in the 7th century CE, before the advent of Islam. His given name, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, means "Servant of the Merciful," a name he retained after embracing

Through this phrase millions of Muslims from the early history of Islam to the present have come to be familiar with the name Abu Hurayrah. In speeches and lectures, in Friday khutbahs and seminars, in the books of hadith and sirah, fiqh and ibadah, the name Abu Hurayrah is mentioned in this fashion: "On the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may God be pleased with him who said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said ".
Through his Prodigious efforts, hundreds of ahadith or sayings of the Prophet were transmitted to later generations. His is the foremost name in the roll of hadith transmitters. Next to him comes the names of such companions as Abdullah the son of Umar, Anas the son of Malik, Umm al-Mumininin Aishah, Jabir ibn Abdullah and Abu Said al-Khudri all of whom transmitted over a thousand sayings of the Prophet.
