Philippine Revolution

Start of the Uprising. The Spanish authorities confirmed the existence of the Katipunan on 19 August Hundreds of Filipino suspects, both innocent and guilty, were arrested and imprisoned for treason. José Rizal was then on his way to Cuba to serve as a doctor in the Spanish colonial army, in exchange for his release from exile in Dapitan. When the news broke, Bonifacio first tried to convince Rizal, quarantined aboard a ship in Manila Bay, to escape and join the imminent revolt. Bonifacio, Emilio Jacinto and Guillermo Masangkay disguised themselves as sailors and went to the pier where Rizal's ship was anchored. Jacinto personally met with Rizal, who rejected their rescue offer. Rizal himself was later arrested, tried and executed.

Eluding an intensive manhunt, Bonifacio called thousands of Katipunan members to a mass gathering in Caloocan, where they decided to start their revolt. The event, marked by the tearing of cedulas (community tax certificates) was later called the “Cry of Balintawak” or “Cry of Pugad Lawin”; the exact location and date of the Cry are disputed. The Supreme Council of the Katipunan declared a nationwide armed revolution aga

The Supremo's history from their memoirs

The same cannot be said of the Bonifacios with nil descendants given that the Supremo's family was nearly entirely wiped out by Aguinaldo's orders. In fact, a television documentary shows a descendant apparently through the Supremo's sister--the only one spared of the Bonifacio carnage--recounting how their ancestors had to hide from the Supremo's enemies to keep safe.

Fortunately for the Supremo, there survive accounts that give the side of Bonifacio and the Magdiwang faction--his letters to Emilio Jacinto y Dizon or Julio Nakpil,  the memoirs of generals Artemio Ricarte alias "Vibora" and Santiago Alvarez, and also Nakpil's "Notes on the Philippine Revolution" ('Apuntes Sobre La Revolucion Filipina'). These documents and accounts mostly counter the version of Aguinaldo's Magdalo, which dominates Philippine history books. To cite, the Katipunan phase of the Himagsikan as written by Teodoro Agoncillo mostly speaks from the perspective of Aguinaldo. The "Revolt of the Masses" by Agoncillo, whose books have for a long time been used as virtual standard reference in at least some colleges including the University of t

The accusation of Canseco that the priests were executed without any trial is not true. Bonifacio appointed Santos Nocon("Duhat") as Judge and Artemio Ricarte("Vibora") the school teacher of San Francisco de Malabon as Fiscal. vieja was accused of killing two of his servants (He inspired Rizal to depict him as Padre Salvi in the novel "Noli Me Tangere" and the servant killed is the fictional "Crispin" ,one of the two Altar boys of Padre SalviD).According to Ricarte"the charges brought against them were many, among them being the execution of the three native priests Mariano Gomez,Jose Burgos and Jacinto Zamora falsely implicated as leaders in the Cavire Mutiny of ,and the banishment of Jose Rizal. (MGAR)

Canseco remembered how Aguinaldo condemmed Bonifacio and Alvarez ' execution of the (Aguinaldo) decribed them as cruel persons who mistreated Spanish prisoners and deprived them of e of Aguinaldo's gallantry towards Spanish and native prisoners ,he won their symphaty of the people and later on elected as president defeating Bonifacio at Tejeros. (KPPC,)

Canseco's account ( Historia de la Insurrection) favors Aguinaldo which he considered as "pro-friar".
