    Project Overview

    Chicago

True to his beginnings as an architecture historian, Filip Dujardin has produced a series of digital prints that focus on the interaction and overlap of urban form, architectural type, and construction detail. His inclusive survey of high-rise construction in Chicago reveals to us the ways in which the image of a city is constructed first and foremost through repetition and consistency. By manipulating the parameters underlying such consensus within the highly recognizable system of the Chicago grid and its architecture, Dujardin proposes a series of transfers or contaminations bet

    Filip Dujardin

The Belgian photographer Filip Dujardin has been garnering acclaim lately for his spectacular works employing digital manipulation to create mazelike, gravity-defying architectural compositions—impossible constructions that suggest housing projects designed by M.C. Escher. Now some of the world's most prominent museums are taking notice: his photography is currently on view in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s landmark exhibition "After Photoshop: Manipulated Photography in the Digital Age," and last month his work was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art to join its permanent collection. Filip Dujardin is fine art and architectural photographer based in Belgium. Dujardin’s Fictions is a series of fictional structures created using a digital collaging technique from photographs of real buildings in and around Ghent, Belgium. Some of his architectural creations are structurally impossible or implausible.
