Little River Band
In LRB were at a stalemate. Record sales were declining. Tension was building between Birtles, Goble and Shorrock. Their personalities and drive were different. It was at the stage where only one band member at a time was in the studio recording because no one was talking to anyone else. At a band meeting one day Beeb Birtles told Shorrock that he could no longer work with him. Others supported his position. Glenn Wheatley fought hard for lead singer Glenn Shorrock to stay; he believed there would be no LRB without Shorrock.
As Glenn Shorrock left that last band meeting he turned and said, . Birtles was not happy when the others began discussions about John being a replacement for Glenn Shorrock. Graham Goble and Dereck Pellicci were keen on having John join the band. Birtles was eventually outvoted.
In February, Glenn Wheatley telephoned John. The Farnhams were on holidays at Sorrento, south of Melbourne. It was at night, and Glenn offered John the position with LRB. John Peter Farnham was born July 1st, , to Rose and John Farnham Snr. at Mile End Hospital in East London.

Since Saint John and Saint Mary Parish School stopped at eighth grade, most of the Armonk students then attended Byram Hills High School. In , Branigan went to Byram Hills High School. She was a member of the Bobcats Junior Varsity Cheerleader Team and a member of the Byram Hills Track and Field Team.
During Laura's senior year in , under the guidance of Gene Bissell, who was the Byram Hills High School Theater Director, she privately auditioned and was given the leading role in the musical &#;The Pajama Game.&#; In a video interview, Bissell said Branigan told him that she wanted to pursue a career on Broadway. Byram Hills High School&#;s Laura Branigan Memorial Scholarship Award is still awarded to a senior for excellence in the performing arts.
