The Life of Martyn Lloyd-Jones

This book is a re-cast, condensed and, in parts, re-written version of the author&#;s two volumes D. Martyn Lloyd- Jones: The First Forty Years (I) and The Fight of Faith (I). Since those dates, the life of Dr Lloyd-Jones has been the subject of comment and assessment in many publications and these have been taken into account. The main purpose of this further biography, however, is to put Dr Lloyd-Jones&#; life before another generation in more accessible form. The big story is all here.

When Lloyd-Jones left medicine, he intended only to be an evangelist in a mission hall in South Wales. No one was more surprised than he in being called to a ministry which would eventually affect churches across the world. How this happened is here explained, but the theme is the person described by F. F. Bruce: &#;a thoroughly humble man. He was a man of prayer, a powerful evangelist, an expository preacher of rare quality, in the fullest sense a servant of the Word of God.&#;

Behind that theme a greater one emerges. In ML- J&#;s own words: &#;My whole life experiences are proof of the sovereignty of God and his direct interference in the lives of men. I can

Lloyd Jones

FROM THE OXFORD COMPANION TO NEW ZEALAND LITERATURE

Jones, Lloyd (– ), is a fiction writer drawn to a sympathetic portrayal of ordinary middle-class life, a suburban realist who simultaneously challenges realism, subverts fictional norms, defies categories and writes narratives which are challenging, original and in some cases controversial.

He was born in Lower Hutt, which has remained a frequent setting and subject, and graduated from Victoria University, then working as a journalist and consultant, but always as a committed writer. He has continued to live in the Hutt Valley or Eastbourne, apart from several periods in USA and in as the Katherine Mansfield Memorial Fellow at Menton. He has also held the Scholarship in Letters and other awards.

Gilmore’s Dairy () is a first novel about a young man’s growing up in a small New Zealand community, distinguishing itself from that well-worn tradition by its skilful reportage and fast-paced narrative, and also by teetering unpredictably on the edge of bizarre fantasy, black comedy and parodic satire, as the dairy of the title goes through a series of eccentric transformations. Splinter () is that rare creation

About

I’m a Brit who came to the States in Just for a year or two.

I&#;m still here.

This tells you how much I know.

But I do know that I was born in Kampala, Uganda and raised in East, and West Africa and at a boarding school in the New Forest, (which I also know is nothing of the sort—it’s very old. It had Charles I in it. How new can it be?).

The first book I ever read all the way through was &#;The Complete Nonsense&#; by Edward Lear.

Things have not been the same since.

Also, I get to have the best job in the world—writing stories. And I get to work for the best bosses in the world—children. I am very grateful.

Here is a picture of me being a baby. (I don’t remember a great deal about being a baby but by all accounts I was quite good at it and have the photos to prove it.)

Things I love: running (sometimes marathons) and cycling, taking photos, going on adventures, watching movies, exploring my city by bike.

I also love great big ginormous cups of strong Tea and porridge.

Not together in the same cup.

Obviously.

I live in Manhattan and enjoy dividing my time between the front half of my apartment and the back. (My British accent makes it sound like I know wh

Writing on David Martyn Lloyd-Jones

David Martyn Lloyd-Jones (–) died three years before I was born, but somehow, I feel like I know the man. I was first introduced to the Welsh Lloyd-Jones by two Scotsmen, Sinclair Ferguson and Alistair Begg. I noticed both Ferguson and Begg would reference or quote Lloyd-Jones in passing in various messages. Begg recommended the two-volume Iain Murray biography at a Basics Conference I attended at Parkside Church in the early s. And I think I immediately went to the Parkside bookstore and purchased my copies.

At the time, I was just beginning work on a Ph.D. at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Church History, which started in Throughout my Ph.D. coursework, I focused on studying and writing about some of the significant theological figures of the church. I took seminars on the life and theology of St. Augustine, Martin Luther, Jonathan Edwards, and B. B. Warfield. Also, I studied extensively the American Puritan, John Cotton, and even Billy Graham, whom I researched at the Graham Library at Wheaton College. Needless to say, I was too busy reading other things to touch the Lloyd-Jones biography. After passing my c
