Margaret Rudin never has to worry again about prosecutors charging her with murder in the slaying of her millionaire husband some 27 years ago in Las Vegas.
The Nevada attorney general&#;s office has confirmed it will not appeal a federal judge&#;s May ruling that tossed Rudin&#;s murder conviction in the death of Ron Rudin. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson also told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that his office has decided not to retry Rudin on a murder charge.
The news offered up a huge wave of relief for the year-old.

Margaret Rudin, 78, was sentenced to two life sentences with the possibility of parole for the murder of her millionaire husband, Ron Rudin, according to ABC Las Vegas affiliate KTNV. Rudin was released from prison in January after serving 20 years of her sentence at the Florence McClure Correctional Center in Las Vegas, per NBC affiliate KSNV.
On Sunday, district court judges in Nevada ruled that Rudin’s first-degree murder conviction be vacated on the grounds of ineffective counsel. The decision also frees Rudin from any parole obligations, according to CBS Las Vegas affiliate KLAS-TV.
Rudin’s attorney, M. Greg Mullanax, told KLAS that the attorney who’d represented Rudin during her trial, the late Michael Amador, was “objectively unreasonable.”
“For example, not interviewing witnesses, not knowing all the facts,” said Mullanax. “He gave a rambling opening statement that really didn’t pertain to her cause. He talked a lot about himself.”

LAS VEGAS — A judge has vacated the murder conviction of a year-old Las Vegas woman who spent 20 years in prison for the killing of her millionaire husband until she was paroled in
Margaret Rudin, a socialite antique shop owner, was found guilty in of murder in the death of real estate mogul Ron Rudin. Prosecutors said he had been shot in the head as he slept in the couple’s home and that his body was dumped in the desert.
But U.S. District Judge Richard Boulware ruled Sunday that Margaret Rudin received ineffective legal representation from her late defense attorney, Michael Amador, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
Rudin maintained her innocence all along.
“I will be 79 years old at the end of this month so I am very, very grateful,” she told the newspaper on Monday.
She was indicted in in what authorities portrayed as a crime committed for financial gain.
Rudin vanished before her indictment and spent two years as a fugitive until a tip generated by a television program that focused on the case led to her arrest in in Massachusetts.
