Σπουδαία ερμηνεύτρια του ελαφρού τραγουδιού, με τη μοναδική βραχνάδα και το τζαζ ηχόχρωμα στη φωνή της. Διακρίθηκε και στο λαϊκό τραγούδι από τις αρχές της δεκαετίας του ‘ Μεγάλες της επιτυχίες τα τραγούδια «Σε βλέπω στο ποτήρι μου», «Σ' αγαπώ», «Μα αύριο κύριε», «Αγόρι μου», «Χίλιες βραδιές», «Σκλάβα», «Ερωτά μου ανεπανάληπτε», «Αν είναι η αγάπη αμαρτία», «Κι έκλαιγε μαζί μου ο θεός» και «Θέλω κοντά σου να μείνω».
Η Ευγενία Βραχνού, όπως ήταν το πραγματικό της όνομα, γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα στις 10 Φεβρουαρίου Πέρασε δύσκολα παιδικά χρόνια μετά το χωρισμό των γονιών της και μεγάλωσε με τη γιαγιά της. Στα 14 της αποπειράθηκε να αυτοκτονήσει, επειδή ο πατέρας της δεν της επέτρεπε να βλέπει τη μητέρα της.
Αρχικά σκόπευε να σπουδάσει στη Φυσικομαθηματική Σχολή. Μετά όμως τη γνωριμία της με τον συνθέτη Μίμη Πλέσσα, τον οποίο θεωρούσε μέντορά της, αποφάσισε να ασχοληθεί με το τραγούδι, παρά την αντίδραση του πατέρα της. Με προτροπή του Πλέσσα έδωσε εξετάσεις στο ΕΙΡ και προσλήφθηκε το ως τραγουδίστρια της ορχήστρας ελαφράς μουσικής του κρατικού ραδιοφωνικού σταθμού. Tzeni Vanou was a famous Greek singer renowned for her unique hoarseness and jazz voice, as well as her &#;larger than life&#; character.
Eugenia Vrachnou, as her real name was, was born in Athens on February 10, She had a difficult childhood after the separation of her parents and grew up with her grandmother. She said that at the age of 14 she tried to commit suicide because her father did not allow her to see her mother.
Tzeni first intended to study at the School of Physics and Mathematics. However, after her acquaintance with the composer Mimis Plessas, whom she considered her mentor, she decided to take up singing. At the urging of Plessas, she took an exam at the EIR and was hired in as a singer in the light music orchestra of the state radio station.
The artistic nickname with which she built her career was the idea of the conductor and composer Gerasimos Lavranos, with whom she collaborated in her first steps.
Her first hit song was &#;If I Deny You My Love&#; and later signed her first big album, which included her great success'&#;I see you in my glass&#;. Her song &#;Tora&#;,
Tzeni Vanou (Greek: Τζένη Βάνου, born Eugenia Vrachnou; 10 February – 5 February ) was a Greek singer, born in Athens. She had planned on studying physics, but she met her mentor, Greek composer Mimis Plessas, who persuaded her to become a singer. She began her career in performing with the ERT orchestra. In , she won first prize in the Thessaloniki Song Festival. At age 74, she died at a Piraeus hospital in from cancer. During her last few months, she had undergone surgery to remove a tumor in her larynx. She died five days before her 75th birthday.
