भारत में भारत-चीन युद्ध को एक हार के तौर पर याद किया जाता है, लेकिन उन वीरों का क्या जिन्होंने चीनियों को उस युद्ध में भी खदेड़ दिया था. दुश्मनों की संख्या हमारे मुकाबले कई गुना ज्यादा थी, मगर भारत मां के वो शेर दुश्मन की फौज का सामना तब तक करते रहे, जब तक उनके शरीर में जान थी. उनमें से ही एक थे परमवीर चक्र से सम्मानित सूबेदार जोगिंदर सिंह. भारत के इतिहास में अपना नाम सदा के लिए अमर करने वाले इस वीर सपूत की 26 सितंबर को जयंती है.
देश प्रेम की भावना
किसान के घर जन्मे जोगिंदर बचपन से ही बहादुर थे और उनमें हमेशा देश प्रेम की भावना रही. सिख रेजिमेंट के इस बहादुर सिपाही के कौशल और साहस के चीनी सैनिक भी कायल थे. इससे पहले भी सूबेदार द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध और के पाकिस्तान युद्ध में भी अपना रण कौशल दिखा चुके थे.
युद्ध क्यों हुआ, कौन जीता और कौन हारा यह सब हम जानते हैं. इसलिए ज्यादा भूमिका न बांधते हुए सीधे बैटल फील्ड पर चलते हैं.
चीनी सैनिकों का जोरदार मुकाबला
उस समय सूबेदार जोगिंदर सिंह के पास न तो पर्याप्त मात्रा में सैनिक थे और न ही असलहा. हालांकि, उन्होंने पीछे हटने के बजाय चीनी सैनिकों के साथ डटकर सामना करने का फैसला लिया.

Subedar Joginder Singh was born on 26th September in Mahakalan village in Moga district of Punjab into an agricultural Saini Sikh family. Son of Sri Sher Singh Saini and Bibi Krishnan Kaur, Sub Joginder Singh did his primary education in his village. He could not continue his studies further as his parents could not afford it. He joined the British Army on 28 Sep and was recruited into 1 Sikh of the famed Sikh Regiment known for its courageous soldiers and numerous battle honours.
As a young soldier, he participated in World War II on Burma front and then also took part in Indo-Pak war of in Srinagar. He married Bibi Gurdyal Kaur Banga, who was from a Saini family of village Kothay Rara Singh near Kot Kapura. The couple had a son and two daughters. He was a hardworking soldier and fulfilled his desire for education by passing his professional examinations and becoming a unit instructor. He commanded respect from the troops for being a strict disciplinarian and a dedicated soldier.
