Arizona businesswoman and philanthropist Cindy McCain was active in her husband, John McCain's bid for the Republican presidential nomination. After he lost, she was chosen as the Chairwoman of the Arizona delegation to the Republican National Convention. Cindy Lou Hensley McCain was born May 20, , in Phoenix, Arizona. As an only child, McCain was raised in Arizona. She earned a B.A. in education and a M.A. in special education from the University of Southern California. She taught at Agua Fria High School in Avondale, Arizona.

McCain was born May 20, , in Phoenix, Arizona. She earned a B.A. in education and a M.A. in special education from the University of Southern California. After college, she taught for one year at Agua Fria High School in Avondale, Arizona.
From to , she founded and operated the American Voluntary Medical Team (AVMT), leading several medical missions to developing and war-torn nations during the team's seven-year existence. Upon her father's death in , she inherited majority control and became chair of Hensley & Co., one of the largest Anheuser-Busch beer distributors in the United States.
