Originally hailing from Haiti, she grew up in New York City and began dancing in her formative years. Deriving influences from the native dances of her culture as well as from the different styles of street dance and eventually from the clubs, Marjory became a driving force in New York’s dance community.
Aside from performing and choreographing, she taught numerous House Dance classes all over the world, inspiring hundreds if not thousands of future dancers.
To Marjory dancing was about expressing oneself, connecting with one another on the dancefloor and living life to the fullest. She always had the biggest smile, and forever a kind word to say to everyone. She was pure love and light. ()

In Loving Memory of Marjory Smarth
Throughout the past 10 years, we have been blessed with the presence of some incredible women who have helped influence and shape our PULSE community. Some are pioneers, others are just starting to make their mark on the Hip Hop dance world, but we are so grateful that they are all a part of our PULSE family. We want to take a minute to share with you their stories and some history behind the styles they practice and love.
The first queen we want you to know more about is Marjory Smarth. Marjory was a world-renowned House dancer, who moved to New York in from Haiti. She began dancing in the clubs and later became a major influence to those in the dance community.
The style of House dance originated in the late 70’s & 80’s, in the underground club scene in New York and Chicago. Before Marjory started dancing professionally and performing for various artists, you could catch her dancing at the clubs and engaging in street jams and battles. After many tours with Diana Ross, Heavy D, and CeCe Peniston (just to name a few), she began choreographing and hosting classes where she became an instant role m

House-Legende Marjory Smarth wurde in Haiti geboren und zog später nach New York, um sich weiter im Tanz auszubilden. Sie verband tribal dances aus ihrer Heimat mit den Street- und Clubdances in NY und wurde damit zu einer Pionierin des House Dance und konnte international arbeiten.
