Sam Aronson Named Director of Brookhaven National Lab

UPTON, NY - The Board of Directors of Brookhaven Science Associates (BSA) announced today that Interim Laboratory Director Dr. Samuel Aronson has been named as the new Director of Brookhaven National Lab (BNL). BSA manages BNL for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). DOE also approved Dr. Aronsons candidacy.
Aronson, a physicist, has served as Brookhaven Labs Interim Director since former Director Praveen Chaudhari stepped down in April Todays announcement was made following a nationwide search and interview process conducted by a committee appointed by the BSA Board.
"We knew Dr. Aronson was a highly respected scientist and administrator when we selected him as Interim Director, and the BSA Board has been very impressed by what he has accomplished in his short tenure," said Shirley Strum Kenny, Chair of the BSA Board and President of Stony Brook University. RIKEN BNL Agreement Renewed

Maki Kawai, executive director of Japans RIKEN, a multidisciplinary lab like Brookhaven, visited the Lab earlier this year and, with BNL Director Sam Aronson, signed a six-year extension of the current agreement regarding the physics program at RHIC and the RIKEN BNL Research Center (RBRC) here at Brookhaven. Signing the six-year extension of the agreement on the physics program at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and the RIKEN BNL Research Center (RBRC) are (front) Maki Kawai, executive director of Japans RIKEN, and Sam Aronson, BNL director. With them are members of the RBRC Management Steering Committee, RBRC and BNL observers, RIKEN administrative staff, and other distinguished attendees.
The signing followed a comprehensive review process by several advisory committees, all of which strongly endorsed RBRCs excellent science. The document was signed at a ceremony following a meeting of the RIKEN BNL Management Steering Committee. Included in the committees commendations were RBRCs potential for making major scientific discoveries
