Kodály, Zoltán
Kodály wrote his Stabat Mater while a student in , for men's voices. Two of his fellow students transcribed it for mixed voices, and this version was published in Czechoslovakia.
The third line of each stanza is repeated, except for the last stanza, where the word "Amen" figures as the fourth line. The -simple - melody is the same for all stanzas.
In he wrote a revised draft of which five pages survived (this version probably has not been published).
The final version (whose actual date is unknown) was sent by Kodály to an acquaintance in This version is substantially different, with a different melodic line at the end, and different bass and harmonies after the first line. Editio Musica, Budapest recently () published this version with just two verses of text, and including a new matching mixed voice arrangement (Thanks to Paul Hodges for additional info)

Esta semana os traigo una obra de repertorio sacro correspondiente al periodo de Semana Santa: Stabat Mater, en la versión de Zoltán Kodály (), músico y pedagogo húngaro del que hablaré más abajo. Es una obra bastante extensa que muchos compositores han armonizado y versionado, como Pergolesi o Rossini. Pero esta versión de Kodály es bastante sencilla y repetitiva, ideal para coros que comienzan a cantar o quieren incorporar un canto de este estilo a su repertorio sacro.

De esta obra he encontrado muchas interpretaciones. La primera que os dejo pertenece al Coro Estro Armonico, de Salerno (Italia), completamente a capella y con cuatro estrofas.
Esta otra versión lleva intercaladas, entre estrofa y estrofa, partes instrumentales correspondientes al Canto Gregoriano de la oración “Tota pulchra es Maria”. Está interpretado por Officina Corale, de Roma (Italia).

Zoltan KODALY (), compositeur hongrois, a créé une œuvre chorale très importante. Il utilise notamment des chansons, des contes, des balades et des mélodies populaires. Celles-ci reprennent des scènes de vie paysanne, des thèmes bibliques ou héroïques avec l'accent magyar. Il développera de nombreuses méthodes d'enseignement de la musique, dont on parle encore aujourd'hui sous le terme de "méthode Kodály", initiant les jeunes enfants au chant et à la tradition chorale.
