Machel Jesus Montano was born in Trinidad and Tobago on November 24th, in Carenage, Port of Spain. He was born to mother, Elizabeth Montano and father, Winston Montano. At a very young age, Montano and his family moved to Sipiria, Trinidad and Tobago. From there he attended Siparia Boys&#; R.C. school and furthered his education at Presentation College in San Fernando. From a very young age Montano showed significant intrest in the musical arts and began to take music more seriously. At the age of seven he began pursuing his musical carrer and at the age of nine he formed his own band called Pranasonic Express. In this year he released his first album &#;Too Young To Soca&#; with the hit songs the same name as the album title. This shot Montano onto the music spotlight very quickly and from a very young age. In April of , the young performer appeared on the popular television show, Star Search, bringing soca music to US national television. The next year, Machel took 2nd place in the Trinidad & Tobago National Song Writer’s Festival with his song, “Dream Girl.”

Montano’s debut album, Too Young To Soca, released in , was an instant hit, which earned rave reviews and standing ovations at live performances. In April of , the young performer appeared on the popular television show, Star Search, bringing soca music to US national television. The following year, Machel took 2nd place in the Trinidad & Tobago National Song Writer’s Festival with his song, Dream Girl. In , at the age of 12, he was the winner of the Caribbean Song Festival held in Barbados; he was the first Trinidadian and youngest to ever win this prestigious contest.
